Here are the basic procedures for setting up and customizing the Suite:

 
Import data
The NetSuite Suite of products imports from almost every type of application. There are specific imports for Quicken®, QuickBooks®, and Peachtree®. CSV and XML import capabilities make it possible to import your data from almost any other application. Import files can be large enough to include multiple years' worth of data.

 
Enter company information
To set up company information, you enter company name, location and contact information, Employer Identification Number and so forth. You also upload the logo you'll use online and on your forms, and select preferences for printing and faxing within the Suite.

 
Enable and define features
The Enable Features capability allows you to select which components of the Suite you wish to use. You can choose to turn on additional components later, depending on how you would like to roll out usage. When you enable the features, you can also specify how you would like them to function. For example, setup tasks for accounting helps you configure the Suite to operate with your inventory valuation method, sales tax procedures, approach to aging invoices and other practices. For Sales Force Automation, you can define your territories and lead assignment rules. For each feature you select, you can choose exactly how to implement it to provide the solutions your business requires.

 
Set up roles
Part of setup is to define roles for each employee who will be using the Suite. Roles allow you to restrict access on a per-person basis so that confidential information such as salaries or bank balances are visible only to those who need it to do their jobs. The Suite comes with pre-defined standard roles such as CEO, bookkeeper, sales manager and sales rep, support manager and support rep, and warehouse manager. You can use these roles just as they are defined, or add and remove individual permissions according to your company's work processes.

 
Customize
The Suite is extremely customizable. You can even rename the basic building blocks that the Suite uses to the same names you use today. For example, you can rename customers to patients, or vendors to contractors. You can also add custom fields to any item, vendor, customer or employee records-as well as to your forms-so you can store and display the additional information you use. For example, you may want to save each customer's birthday to add a personal touch to sales calls and promotions, or you may need to identify specific units of measure for inventory items.
 
The Suite also supports data exchanges with other applications if you need. For periodic operations, our import and export features allow data to be exchanged in CSV format. For real-time operations, we have created an smbXML method so data can be automatically exchanged as transactions occur.
 
Finally, employees can define the Suite for themselves both functionally and visually. Functionally, they can specify their time zone, where decimals will automatically be placed in their numeric entries, whether they should see reports in fiscal periods or by calendar dates, and much more. Visually they can define the elements displayed on their individual Home pages when they first log in and the color and layout scheme they would like to see.
